Só ficaram os sobreiros [All that was left were the cork oak trees]
Installation. 16 Riso stencil prints, 297 × 420 cm. (edition of 3 + 1 artist proof). 2015
Só ficaram os sobreiros [All that was left were the cork oak trees] departs from topographic maps made by the Portuguese Army in the 50s, covering most of the Alentejo region, in the south of Portugal.
These maps have been forged by the artist, showing a fictionalized landscape where the cork oak tree is clearly dominant. Altogether these maps are nothing else than an interpretation of a fragmented landscape, in time and space.
