Shivering Sands

Shivering Sands

Installation and performance. Cassette recorder, tapes, microphone, radio amplifier, printed material, collage, and wood shelve. Variable dimensions. 2012

Shivering Sands consists of an installation and a performance piece.

On April 1973, the Norderney ship, a transmitter of the Dutch Radio Veronica, lost its anchor during a storm and ended up at the beach of Scheveningen (The Hague, NL). That day several people went to the beach to see it and register the happening.

The images that registered this moment can still be found all over the Internet. For this project I collected several of them, got in touch with some of their authors and assembled them with no particular order. The performance consists of a set of tapes, prints and live voice with focus on the relation between radio and censorship.

Exhibition view at De Witte Slagerij, August 2012, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
